*Sometime back in January* “Lily, what kind of Valentines do you want to make this year?”
“Something with horses.”
Gotcha.
It’s funny – these Valentines actually took quite a journey during the planning stages. First I was set on a horse shoe theme, using the “lucky” tagline. I went from considering real horse shoes (too heavy) to paper ones (too flimsy) to card stock shoes, but I still wasn’t thrilled about the concept.
Then I got lost on Amazon as tends to happen at least once a day, and I saw these adorable rubber duck horse sets.
We picked up banana patterned ribbon at Michael’s (which was too wide for my liking so I cut the ribbon into thinner strips – getting 3 thinner strips instead of the 1 larger ribbon.
I made some tags, still using the “lucky” line, adding some horse shoes to get the point across.

After Lily filled out the tags for her friends, I punched a single hole in the top left hand corner and tied a tag around each pony with the ribbon.
The Valentine’s were handed out at school yesterday and were apparently a hit. It was nice to find a relatively simple idea (and one that was candy-free since her classroom has some allergy restrictions).
What Valentine’s did you whip up this year?
